Mid State Technical College and city set Sept. 30 kickoff for Nexus Public Safety Center

City and Mid State Technical College officials told the commission Aug. 6 that the Nexus Public Safety Center and Station 3 project is advancing through final approvals and that they are planning a public kickoff on Sept. 30 to coincide with the close of National Preparedness Month.
Rick Anderson, dean of Mid State Technical College’s Adams campus and School of Public Safety, said the Sept. 30 date will mark a brief ceremony and fundraising kickoff; the college reported 62 agencies across its district have already signed on in support of the project. City staff said they will present necessary lease agreements to the finance committee and expect final city approvals in the next two weeks, with the college moving the project through state approvals after that.
Anderson also presented challenge coins to commissioners as tokens of appreciation and said the project will serve roughly 172,000 residents across the college’s district, including Stevens Point. The commission thanked presenters and noted the project’s potential to enhance regional training, recruitment and retention for public safety personnel.
