The Police and Fire Commission voted Aug. 6 to approve hiring Cody Fox as a probationary police officer with the Stevens Point Police Department, pending successful completion of psychological and medical screenings. Chief staff described Fox as a lateral transfer with 1.5 years of prior experience; he currently serves as a police officer in Berlin, Wis., and completed a 720‑hour law enforcement academy in fall 2023.
Commissioners asked whether the city grants credit for prior service; staff confirmed Fox will “start at the 1.5 year rate,” which is higher than academy graduates. Kerschling moved to approve the hire, the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The appointment is contingent on standard post‑offer screenings and will be processed under the Stevens Point Police Officer Organization collective bargaining agreement (Article 22 on seniority).
