Council sets Aug. 18 public hearing after DOT sign‑placement error on Highway 3

City staff told the Lamar City Council on Aug. 4 that an incorrect footage entry in the map associated with a previously approved speed‑limit change placed an Iowa DOT sign at a different location than intended.
A staff member explained that the chart used to place signs had the wrong footage, which "placed it at the wrong spot," and that the DOT requires a corrected ordinance and map for the sign to be moved. The council scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 18, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. to consider amendments to Chapter 140 (controlled access facilities) and specific speed limits on Highway 3.
The staff presentation noted the council originally approved changes on April 21, 2026; the corrected map and yardage were attached to the council packet. The motion to set the hearing was made, seconded and carried.
