Council approves updated Community Development Plan after ISG presentation

After an ISG presentation and council discussion, Lamar’s City Council voted to approve an updated Community Development Plan that reflects community engagement and identifies three opportunity areas; ISG reported more than 400 survey responses.
The Lamar City Council voted Aug. 4 to approve an updated Community Development Plan prepared by ISG following a multi‑phase engagement process.
Danielle Props, senior planner with ISG and project manager for the update, told the council the update included a joint council and business initiative workshop, steering‑committee review and a public survey that drew "more than 400 online and written survey responses." She said the update identifies three opportunity areas for additional consideration: the Business Highway 75 North interchange, the 18th Street Elementary School area, and the YMCA and convention center site, and stressed that the concepts are high‑level visions rather than final development plans.
Council members emphasized that the plan is a tool to start conversations and that any future development will depend on property owner interest and market conditions. After discussion a motion was made "to acknowledge receipt and approve the updated Community Development Plan as prepared by ISG," the motion was seconded and the council voted in favor.
The plan will be posted on the City of Lamar’s website and is intended to guide future public and private investment rather than obligate specific projects.
