Commissioners approve placing one-cent GPET continuation on 2026 ballot after 3–2 vote

The Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners voted 3–2 on June 2 to place a continuation of the one-cent General-Purpose Excise Tax (GPET) on the 2026 general election ballot.
County Administrative Director Cameron Duff presented Resolution 26-06-053 to direct the County Clerk to place the GPET continuance question on the ballot. Commissioner Holly Jennings moved to amend the draft resolution by removing its first line, arguing the board should appear neutral when presenting the tax question to voters; that amendment failed 2–3 (Commissioners Mike Arzy and Holly Jennings in favor; Commissioners Christi Haswell, Nick Siddle and Lonnie J. Wright opposed). The original resolution then passed 3–2 with Haswell, Siddle and Wright voting in favor and Arzy and Jennings opposed.
The board’s action authorizes the County Clerk to place the ballot language on the 2026 general election ballot; the resolution’s signing was authorized by the chair. No public comments were recorded on the item during the hearing. The item drew dissent from two commissioners at the vote and a formal amendment attempt that did not prevail.
