Commission signs off on maintenance worker descriptions for public works and utilities

Staff presented separate job descriptions for public works maintenance worker I/II and utilities maintenance worker I/II, explaining the split follows the organizational separation of water and wastewater functions into a utilities department. The descriptions clarify duties by section—parks/landscape versus streets/trees/stormwater—and preserve flexibility for departments to share personnel when needed.

Staff emphasized the roles are flex-staffed and that certifications included in the AFSCME memorandum of understanding provide pathways for pay increases. "We just needed to organize the job descriptions and the work being performed within each of the departments," staff said. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the job descriptions by voice vote with no opposition recorded at the meeting.
