Harvey County approves KDOT public transit grant application with $87,266 local match

Harvey County commissioners approved the county’s application for the Kansas Department of Transportation SFY 2027 General Public Transportation Grant and authorized staff to sign and submit the application.
Lona Kelly, Director of the Department on Aging, presented the application with Transportation Coordinator Karen Kaufman and stated: “The anticipated local match for the entire grant is $87,266.27 which includes the purchase of one vehicle.” The grant packet attached to the agenda described current service demand: more than 5,600 calls for service during FYE 25 and 163 unduplicated clients served during the fiscal year for the county’s transportation program. The application lists service hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.), fare structure and coordination with area providers, and includes letters of local support.
Commissioners unanimously approved the application and authorized staff to execute the submission documents. County staff said the local match will be provided from county sources identified in the packet and that vehicle purchases and service requirements will follow KDOT procurement and reporting rules if the grant is awarded.
