Superintendent Christy Somerville Majette opened the convocation by unveiling a new Lynchburg City Schools logo and describing a new strategic plan centered on the vision "growth, opportunity, success." "The vision for Lynchburg City Schools is growth, opportunity, success," Majette said, and framed the coming year as the first full year of putting the plan into action.
Majette said the division will identify clear measures of success, track progress, and use data to guide decisions. She outlined five goals: student-driven learning; a culture of well-being, belonging and support; employee growth and retention; safe and sustainable systems (including transportation and facilities); and trusted partnerships with families and community organizations. On implementation, Majette described this as a "baseline year" during which staff at every level will learn how their work connects to the plan and how success will be measured. She also noted the launch includes visible branding: LCS swag featuring the new logo will be shared at schools.
The administration emphasized concrete priorities under each goal: consistent high-quality instruction and career-connected learning for students; clearer behavior and mental-health supports and increased extracurricular access; professional learning, mentoring and improved employee recruitment and retention; responsible use of funds and attention to transportation, nutrition and facility maintenance; and clearer, more consistent family communication and expanded community partnerships. Majette said staff will use data and feedback "to solve problems, improve services, and make sound decisions." The convocation closed with a reiteration that the division will treat the 2026–27 year as the starting point for measuring progress toward the plan's goals.
