Superintendent praises mock trial teams, reports advocacy letters to Congress and state legislators

Superintendent Nicole Brunser opened her report by congratulating Ukiah High School and Laytonville for finishing first and second in the Mendocino County mock trial competition; because of a wild-card draw both teams will advance to the state competition March 14–16 in Los Angeles.
Brunser also outlined recent advocacy work: "I sent letters to senator Adam Schiff, senator Alex Padilla, and representative Huffman to reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools Act," she said, explaining that the program delivers money to districts with large amounts of national forest land and needs periodic reauthorization. She also said the county office sent a letter supporting Assembly Bill 401 to move the career-technical incentive grants to a four-year cycle and apply COLA, which would aid long-term planning for CTE partnerships.
Brunser highlighted staff and student engagement at recent conferences and urged trustees to view student art and STEAM Expo entries on display in the building entryway. Trustees asked to see the letters referenced and thanked staff for ongoing outreach and student-support work.
