Board approves multiple hires; one trustee abstains on volleyball coach hire

On April 22, 2026 the Odessa School Board approved three recommended hires put forward by Superintendent Steve Fisk. Nicholas Sebesta moved to hire Joshua Clark as the TK–12 Physical Education & Health Teacher; Zach Schafer seconded the motion and it passed 5-0. The board similarly approved Matt Schroder as the high school head girls basketball coach by a 5-0 vote.
The motion to hire Krystel Schafer as the junior-high head girls volleyball coach was moved by Trustee Sheena Starkel and seconded by Trustee Nicholas Sebesta. Trustee Zach Schafer abstained from voting on that motion; the hire was recorded as carried with four affirmative votes and one abstention. The minutes do not record discussion explaining the abstention.
