During the special-called budget meeting, Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter and Chief David Puckett updated commissioners on the status of the Northview/Kodak Volunteer Fire Department (NVKVFD). Commissioner Bryan Delius initially proposed approving three 3-person crews at both New Center and NVKVFD and to revisit adding battalion chiefs next fiscal year, but he later withdrew that motion.
Commissioner Mike Chambers then moved to approve a full merger with NVKVFD — including transfer of assets and for NVKVFD to assume debts — and to hire 18 firefighters: three 3-person crews at New Center, three 3-person crews at NVKVFD, and three Battalion Chiefs at NVKVFD. Commissioner Michael Maddron seconded the motion; the committee approved it unanimously, and members indicated the proposal would amend the FY2026–2027 proposed budget.
