Sevier County approves FY2026–2027 budget package and sets tax levy above certified rate

The Sevier County Board of Commissioners’ Budget Committee on June 16 approved a package of budget resolutions that advance the county’s Fiscal Year 2026–2027 spending plan and set the official tax levy to begin July 1, 2026. Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter and Assistant County Mayor Brooke Huffaker presented the measures, which the committee adopted unanimously.
Resolutions approved included Resolution 2026-06-15 (amendments to multiple funds to more accurately reflect revenues and expenses), Resolution 2026-06-21 (appropriations for various county offices and agencies), and Resolution 2026-06-22 (approval of the official budget documents). The package also included housekeeping and procurement items — Resolution 2026-06-16 (sale/disposal of vehicles and equipment) and Resolution 2026-06-17 (authorization of multi-year lease purchases and maintenance agreements) — and Resolution 2026-06-18 to establish and fix the tax levy. Each item was moved, seconded and passed unanimously by the committee.
County officials said the approvals position the county to begin the next fiscal year on July 1, 2026, with updated revenue and expense lines across the general fund, school funds and several special revenue funds. The motions were procedural votes by the committee to send the finalized documents and levy to the appropriate next steps under county procedure.
