Minnewaska board nonrenews multiple probationary teachers, approves two terminations pending funding

"Motion by Ogdahl, seconded by Lagred, to approve nonrenewing Sara Geiser a Probationary Teacher," the minutes record; similar motions to nonrenew Mataya Hoelscher, Michelle Dunn, Kaley Poegel, Stephanie Thoen, McKenzie Newton and others were approved by unanimous roll call among the members present. The board also approved nonrenewing Nick Gugisberg (Tier 1 Teacher).
The board voted to terminate two Title I support staff positions—Melissa Hayek and Jo Ann Kocher—effective at the end of the 2024–2025 school year, "pending Federal funding for the 2025–2026 school year," according to the recorded motions (motions by Ogdahl; seconded by Lagred and others where noted). One personnel item—the nonrenewal of Taylor Amundson (Probationary Mental Health Practitioner)—was tabled.
Board members did not record any dissenting votes among those present; Barsness was noted absent. The actions will change staffing for the upcoming school year and, in some cases, are contingent on external funding.
