On June 2, 2026, the Carbon Cliff Board of Trustees ratified a retroactive $5,000 bonus to Village Director Nick Gottwalt that Village President Bill Hintz had authorized by direct deposit in July 2024 and approved a policy to have future service bonuses issued through payroll.
The board’s minutes state that the FY 2025–2030 pay scale—adopted July 16, 2024—provides a $1,000 bonus for every five years of service and that President Hintz had authorized a $5,000 payment to Gottwalt on July 18, 2024, for his 25 years of service. "It is under the advisement of our auditors that the Village Board acknowledge and ratify Village President Bill Hintz’s authorization to issue said funds to Director Gottwalt," the minutes read, and auditors recommended processing future bonuses through payroll so appropriate taxes are withheld.
Trustees approved the ratification and the payroll issuance policy as part of a consent agenda that passed by roll call (Allison-yes, Alonzo-yes, Cantrell-yes, Dreher-yes, Dreifurst-absent, Harris-yes). The motion appears on the agenda as a formal item to acknowledge the July 18, 2024 direct deposit and to require that going forward bonuses be issued through payroll in accordance with the adopted pay scale.
