The Minneapolis Board of Education conducted interviews with four finalists for the open Election District 3 appointment. Each candidate was allotted up to 15 minutes and asked three standard questions about governing to support the district strategic plan, how they would engage students and families, and ideas for addressing budget challenges and setting priorities.
The interviews were ordered by random draw: Lucie Skjefte (first), Cristin Crabtree (second), Michael Dueñes (third) and Fatimah Hussein (fourth). The minutes list the three questions asked of each finalist: (1) how the board should govern in support of the strategic plan and the Superintendent’s role; (2) how the candidate would engage students, families and community to ensure all voices are heard; and (3) whether the candidate had innovative ideas to address budget constraints and how they would prioritize when hard decisions are required.
The minutes do not record candidate answers verbatim or indicate a selection was made at this meeting. Following the interviews, Chair Collin Beachy adjourned the meeting at 8:02 p.m.
