The Yellow Medicine East ISD #2190 board met Aug. 11 and approved a slate of personnel appointments, policy adoptions and contracts that set school operations for the 2025–26 year.
In a package of motions recorded in the minutes the board approved multiple staff hires, including Jesse Nelson as MS/HS physical education teacher and Erik Hoklin as MS/HS social studies teacher, among others. The minutes record motions "by Matt Zempel, second by Sonja Pederson, and carried, to approve the employment of Jesse Nelson, MS/HS Physical Education Teacher." One hire — Katie Zempel for elementary special education — was approved with an abstention by board member Matt Zempel.
The board also approved the Bert Raney Elementary and YME MS/HS student handbooks and the Acceptable Use Policies for both buildings for the 2025–26 school year. The minutes note approval of an agreement with Countryside Public Health and an LEA Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with Prairie Five Headstart, plus a Child Care Food Program Contract for vended meals with Prairie Five Headstart.
Board members approved program and equipment items, including implementation of the "Sting Champions of Spirit Awards" and purchases of classroom interactive displays. The minutes record a specific authorization to purchase a golf cart for the athletic department "up to $3,500, using athletic advertising funds." Financial disbursements recorded with the consent agenda included checks numbered 29049–29144 and wires totaling $574,167.82.
The board set Aug. 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. to certify the results of an Aug. 12, 2025 special election. Chair Jeremy LeBlanc adjourned the meeting following the approvals. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
