Wayzata sets staff cultural-responsiveness target, cites early survey baselines
Summary
The district reported initial peer-coach and classroom-protocol survey results and set a target that 85% of staff will reach an "Embracing" level of culturally responsive practice by May 2026; slides also listed modest increases in licensed BIPOC staff as a target.

District staff presented Goal #3 at the Jan. 27 work session, describing early measurement and staff-development targets intended to increase culturally responsive teaching practices and staff diversity.
Slides cited the Innovation Configuration map and peer-coach survey results (for example, Q1 protocols N=278 at 78%, Q2 classroom community N=274 at 76%, Q3 student voice N=278 at 76%) as early baselines. The presenter repeated the plan target that at least 85% of Wayzata staff will assess at or above the Embracing level on that map by May 2026. The slides also show incremental increases in licensed BIPOC staff from 4% (2022-23) to 6% in the 2024 actuals and noted small numbers for non-licensed staff participating in optional learning.
Presenter stressed professional learning time is limited, noting research that shifting one teaching practice can require roughly 50+ hours of development, and said the district's path emphasizes teacher-leaders, peer coaching and embedded site plans.
The presenter described Grow Your Own programming as a pathway to increase future licensed BIPOC staff but did not present a detailed staffing plan or dollar figures during the work session.
"We will continue to refine which data will best guide us given the pace and constraints in this work," the presenter said, underscoring the experimental and iterative nature of the staff-development measures.
