WEM reports end-of-year events, prom attendance and spring athletics schedule
Summary
Administrators reported spring concerts, prom (about 125 participants), Night of Excellence on May 21 and postseason schedules for baseball, softball and track; driver education and summer care enrollment figures were also provided.
District administrators gave summaries of end-of-year events and spring athletics at the May 19 meeting. Dr. Jennifer Wilson reported that the junior prom on May 3 drew roughly 125 students for the grand march, dinner and dance; the music department presented a Pop’s Concert on May 14 and Night of Excellence was scheduled for May 21. Commencement for the Class of 2025 is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 23 in the high school gym; Mr. Tyson Cooley will provide the class address and senior Claire Elness will be the student speaker.
Activities and Community Education Director Jeff Boran reviewed postseason dates for baseball (subsections begin May 22) and softball (playoffs beginning May 20), track subsection and section meet dates, and listed All‑Conference performers including Wyatt Jans (1600m & 3200m champion) and Ashlyn Pelant (shot put & discus champion). Boran also reported that Summer School Age Care registrations total 53 and driver education classroom and behind‑the‑wheel enrollments were 19 and 29 respectively, with 17 behind‑the‑wheel spots still available through August.
Middle School Principal Myles Knutson described an Unplugged Day on May 12 where students left Chromebooks in lockers for low‑tech activities; students responded positively and reportedly said, "We should do this more often!"
