Wayzata restates targets and baseline data to close achievement gaps for Black students
Summary
The district presented Goal #1 data showing baseline and 2024 actuals for reading and math gaps across grade bands and said some measures are new or have limited reliability; staff set reduction targets and noted privacy limits for small subgroup reporting.

A district staff member presented the first goal of the Achievement & Integration plan at the Jan. 27 work session, restating measurable targets and baseline data for reducing racial disparities in achievement and interventions.
Presenter outlined baseline and 2024 actuals across grade bands: local K-1 and 2-5 FastBridge and MAP baselines were noted as N/A or newly established in 2023-24, with example snapshot figures such as new baselines showing 30 percentage points (K-1) and high-school grade gaps varying by term. The presenter said intervention disparity reductions for grades 1-5 tracked to 7%'' 8% points in 2024 and that grade 6-8 intervention disparities were reported at 16% (baseline) and 24% (2024 actual) in the slides.
The presenter cautioned that some data remain unreliable or labeled "N/A" because new assessments and changing intervention programming at Wayzata High School limit cross-year comparability. The slides also note the district will develop a family-engagement survey to better monitor outreach, but that approach and exact measures are "TBD" and some disaggregated group sizes are too small to report publicly to protect student privacy.
The presenter said the plan aims to reduce the gap between Asian and Black students on local assessments by 50% by May 2026 and to bring Black/African-American enrollment in enrichment and intervention within two percentage points of district enrollment by the same date.
The presentation included several technical caveats: some KIPs are percent-based while others are raw counts, and the district is re-examining which data points best reflect progress given slow expected change under current constraints.
"Reading Intervention disparities reduced 1-5: baseline 8% pts, 2024 actual 7% pts," a slide summarized; the presenter noted some of these figures are preliminary and that the district is establishing new baselines for several measures.
