Cascade SD 5 approves band/choir trip to Anaheim and Turner Elementary field trip to Fort Vancouver

The Cascade School District #5 Board approved two out-of-state travel requests at its April 14, 2025 meeting. The High School Band and Choir were approved to travel to Anaheim, California from May 16-19, 2025 to participate in workshops and perform at Disneyland Resorts and California Adventure; the motion was moved by Ruth Stevens and seconded by Jon Remy Jr. The Turner Elementary 4th grade field trip to Fort Vancouver, Washington on May 28, 2025 for Oregon Trail studies was approved following a motion by Jon Remy Jr., seconded by Aaron Lee. Both motions were recorded as carried unanimously.
The band and choir trip was presented by Choir Teacher Wendy Kivett, who noted students participated in fundraising and scholarships are available; the board recorded that the trip is educational in nature (workshops and performance) rather than competitive. The Turner Elementary trip was presented by Superintendent Darin Drill as part of curriculum-linked field learning.
Both trips were approved under separate resolutions and are subject to standard district travel procedures and parental permissions.
