Cascade SD 5 finance director flags tight budget; board schedules mid-year review

Finance Director Mr. Pillar briefed the Cascade School District #5 Board on May 12 that the district faces a tighter budget next fiscal year. He flagged flat enrollment, PERS liabilities, and the cost of leave and long-term substitute coverage as the main pressures but said, in his view, the district will be "in OK shape."
Chair Brett Stegall asked for a full budget update for the Board in October or November so the Board can consider mid-year adjustments rather than waiting until the end of the fiscal year. Superintendent Darin Drill said an initial budget package will be recommended to the Board at the June meeting. The minutes note the Board and finance staff will continue to monitor PERS and potential bond opportunities but give no dollar totals or final budget figures in the packet.
