Medford board emphasizes student outcomes, highlights graduation growth for English Learners

Board Chair Cynthia Wright opened a discussion of meeting structure and priorities on Jan. 23, saying the board intends to "change the tone and narrow the focus of Board meetings" and emphasize the district vision "All are learning and learning is for all." She asked directors to provide feedback on an agenda reorder intended to prioritize Board work before citizen comment.
Superintendent Bret Champion and Deputy Superintendent Jeanne Grazioli described systems intended to improve student outcomes. Grazioli said the district "would be recognized by the Oregon Department of Education for one of the highest graduation growth rates in the state for English Learner students." Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Kirk Kolb outlined goals including non-traditional credit pathways, career/workforce experiences and college credit opportunities to increase graduation rates.
