Board members opened the Jan. 9 meeting with brief reports on recent school and community activities.
Student representative Eileen Lewis described volunteer work at the Crescent Valley High School library. Director Judah Largent noted attending a Bridges event that featured student art. Director Chris Hawkins praised elementary principal presentations at a January scorecard dinner and congratulated Chair Luhui Whitebear on her election to the Oregon School Boards Association board of directors. Chair Whitebear also reported being elected as the region #10 Linn-Benton-Lincoln representative to the OSBA board and as president of the Oregon School Board Members of Color Caucus.
Directors thanked staff for their work and noted opportunities to strengthen collaboration with other jurisdictions; Commissioner Gabe Shepherd's attendance was acknowledged during board member comments.
