Darden Architects representatives Grant Dodson and Richard Martinez presented proposed improvements and additions for Mendota Elementary School, the State Preschool and a new district office at the Mendota Unified School District board meeting on Sept. 11, 2024. Trustees said the visuals helped them envision the projects and raised questions about design and timelines.
Trustee Jose C. Zavala thanked the presenters, saying the plan "looks very promising." Trustee Lupe Flores asked whether the elementary design could be adjusted to resemble Mendota High School and pressed presenters to ensure no important elements were omitted. Superintendent Dr. Lopez and district designer Jose Alcaide said a decision on the McCabe track project would be needed soon because of the incoming winter months.
The board later approved a contract with Meehleis Modular Buildings, Inc. to provide Phase II modular classrooms at Mendota Elementary School and identified the company as the lowest bidder for that phase. The board did not specify construction start dates in the public minutes; trustees and staff indicated timing and site logistics remain subject to final scheduling and weather considerations.
