Shawnee County facilities management asked the board to approve contract C2026280 with P1 Service for an emergency temporary chiller rental at the Harley‑Davidson facility totaling $103,800, using contingency funds. Justin Landon, director of facilities management, said the existing chiller was "in a non repairable state due to its age and discontinuation of parts," and that additional electrical work and an extra transformer increased the bill. He said the rental covers four months and the county can terminate early if not needed; the motion carried 3–0.
Landon told commissioners a turnkey replacement chiller would cost roughly $350,000 to $500,000 with approximately a 40‑week lead time. He said the current temporary rental "was put in place to get them AC back" after the unit failed. Commissioners asked about options to reduce costs by shortening the rental period and about planning an RFP for a permanent HVAC solution.
