Superintendent James Owens reported on district priorities and summer capital projects at the Sept. 10 meeting. He listed projects completed or underway: Centennial Transition Center renovations; Oliver Middle School seismic upgrades; Parklane Elementary classroom improvements; Powell Butte Elementary playground addition; parking lot sealcoating and striping; and district-wide freshly painted common spaces.
Owens also updated the board on strategic-plan direction for 2025'1026, outreach and planning meetings, summer learning and an executive order prohibiting student cell phone use. He noted a partnership with the Shadow Project and that Oregon Department of Education (ODE) Director Dr. Charlene Williams was recognized and expected to visit Pleasant Valley Elementary. Board members asked about the Budget Committee application timeline and current class sizes; student representatives reported initial experiences with the new cell-phone policy. No formal board action on these items was recorded at the meeting.
