Trustees honor T. Kirby, discuss campus projects and upcoming SBAC report

Trustees used their communications section Sept. 25 to praise staff, raise campus-safety concerns and preview upcoming reports.
Multiple trustees congratulated T. Kirby on a Fresno County recognition for his work as an ROP administrator. Trustee Lupe Flores said of Kirby, "he deserves it!" Trustees also raised operational questions for Superintendent Paul Lopez, including the status of a walk-in refrigerator at Washington Elementary and irrigation issues affecting site landscaping. Dr. Lopez told trustees he expected bids and a resolution of installation issues in coming weeks and said the architect would present two options for the new district office; he also said official student counts and SBAC data would be shared at the Oct. 9 meeting.
Trustees noted student safety concerns at Washington Elementary and at the Valero crossing; district staff reported that the city is working with Caltrans through a joint City/District meeting to address crossings. Board members also mentioned upcoming FFA participation at the Big Fresno Fair and explained that food donations requested by staff were intended for extra snacks for students during the event.
