The Pendleton School District 16R Board on Dec. 12 approved a revised superintendent position description and voted to post a salary range of $190,500 to $205,500 for the vacancy. The board reviewed a contract-salary comparison prepared by RS2 Education Consultants that used ten Oregon districts closest in size to Pendleton; RS2 recommended a range of $187,000–$197,000, but the board collectively opted to raise the posted range. Chair Patrick Gregg asked whether a $200,000 figure would prompt community concern; consultant Doug Nelson raised the question for board consideration.
Board members moved and recorded approval of the job description (motion moved by Director Mason Murphy, seconded by Director Beth Harrison) and later set the salary range (motion to set range moved and seconded; Chair recorded Director Anne Keeler as seconding the motion). Both motions were recorded as carried unanimously. The minutes note there were no suggestions or comments from visitors during the meeting.
