County authorizes data-use agreement with Texas Tech Health Sciences Center for inmate care

The court authorized the county judge to sign a data-use agreement with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center that will allow medical-provider systems serving the county detention center and University Medical Center to interface, improving coordination of inmate medical care.
"This data usage agreement is for a medical provider out of the detention center and UMC to interface the data and better provide medical care for our inmates," the chief said while asking the court for approval. The motion to authorize the county judge to sign the agreement was moved and seconded and approved without opposition.
County staff said the agreement is intended to streamline medical records access for clinicians caring for detainees and to reduce delays in treatment; no detailed contract terms were read into the record at the meeting beyond the purpose statement and the request for authorization to sign.
