Teacher Amanda Carlton and Pacific High students Ashton Wood (Editor) and Devin Dupree (Lead Reporter) presented the student-run Jolly Roger newspaper during the June 9 board meeting.
Amanda Carlton said the paper published seven editions this school year and explained that the district’s printer — the same one used by Matt Hall of the Port Orford News — prints the paper at no charge. "Advertising space is available through Amanda Carlton," the minutes record. Students described reporting and research experiences: Ashton said the work included in‑depth researching and meeting district staff, while Devin said he appreciated telling stories from a student perspective. The minutes also note plans to expand distribution throughout the community and to add a comic by Mia Johnson next year.
Board member Carol Hacherl relayed local praise she had heard for the paper. The presentation highlighted student engagement opportunities and community distribution plans but recorded no funding requests or action items.
