The Erath County Historical Commission announced a preservation event at Oak Dale Cemetery scheduled for Oct. 10. Janae Smith said the commission will work with Tarleton Cadets to refresh and, where needed, level memorial markers.
A preparatory budget has been drafted for the event, but commission members said they still need an accurate count of how many stones will be cleaned and leveled before finalizing the budget and supplies. The event was presented as part of the Cemetery Preservation Committee update; Cindy Shipman also provided a brief update on power-line intervention work tied to cemetery preservation.
Organizers did not provide a total cost estimate at the meeting. The commission listed the Oak Dale event among its upcoming activities and will likely report more details, including volunteer sign-up and supply needs, at the July meeting.
