District says attendance work will continue via teams despite staffing changes
Summary
Committee members worried that elimination of certain positions could reduce personal outreach on attendance; district staff said the work continues through school-based attendance teams, counselors and student-success staff and that eliminated positions were handled through attrition or reassignments.

Committee members asked whether reductions to roles that previously supported attendance (assistant secretary/attendance positions) would diminish the district’s ability to do personal outreach to families. A staff presenter described a district-wide attendance initiative begun earlier in the year that created school-level attendance teams and cited successes from the ninth-grade success team at the high school.
The presenter said vacancies resulted from retirements and attrition and that staff offered affected employees other positions that did not reduce salary where positions were eliminated. "When we started having conversations with each of the building administrators...what are we gonna do? First talking with them to find out what their priorities were," the presenter said, emphasizing a collaborative approach to reassign work and use existing counselors, student-success TOSAs and other staff to sustain outreach.
Committee members asked staff to ensure the personal contact and follow-up that attendance roles provided remain intact; staff agreed to continue evaluating that work as part of future budget decisions.
