Board considers Graduation Alliance partnership to support credit recovery for about 50 students

Superintendent Kim Kellison informed the Silver Falls School District 4J board that the district had been approached by Graduation Alliance to sponsor a drop-out prevention/credit-recovery program. Kellison said the program would assist approximately 50 students with credit-recovery needs and that some participants might not live inside district boundaries; the arrangement could increase the district’s ADM (Average Daily Membership). Kellison expressed hesitation because of Silver Falls’ high graduation rate and low drop-out rate, and she noted that a district in Everett, Washington, reported the program did not affect their graduation rate.
Board members discussed the proposal and asked the superintendent to contact the Everett district to gather details about their experience before the board considers a representative presentation or next steps. No motion or vote occurred on the proposal during the Feb. 23 work session.
