The board discussed setting up a direct email or contact form so community members can reach board members. Director Sippling said community requests for a direct mailbox or web form have been raised at multiple meetings.
City staff (Lal) said "there will need to be internal conversations and interdepartment conversation with the city attorney reviewing, any communications or social media policy, involving our cybersecurity as well." Staff noted the COO and city clerk are aware and that a web form remains an option; staff confirmed the interim direct contact previously used is di@kamazoocity.org. Board members asked that the web team add a clear contact path to the civil rights board web page while formal policy is finalized.
Why it matters: community members reported they lacked a clear route to contact the board directly; board members said adding a visible contact option would increase transparency and responsiveness but must be implemented in coordination with legal, cybersecurity and communications staff.
Next steps: staff will continue internal coordination and pursue adding the interim contact to the board web page; legal review will precede any formal published inbox or form.
