The town's zoning administrator (S7) told the Select Board that the current zoning ordinance is about 20 years old and contains provisions that no longer apply. She said a state grant could fund consultant help to update the ordinance, but that one stipulation appears to be having a planning commission in place.
"One of the stipulations looks like that we have to have a planning commission in play so we can do this," S7 said, and asked the Select Board to post a Front Porch Forum notice to recruit interested residents. The board discussed whether CVRPC or other regional planning bodies could provide consultant assistance at low or no cost.
Members noted past grant rejections tied to the town's lack of a village center designation and discussed whether a focused update—rather than a full overhaul—would better reflect local priorities while enabling the town to administer rules consistently. The board authorized posting outreach to solicit volunteers for a planning commission and asked staff to follow up on potential regional support for the grant application.
