Owatonna board approves multiple policy changes, splits vote on two policies

On second reading the board pulled policies 601 and 606.5 for separate consideration, then approved them 6–1 (Hedlund opposed); the board also unanimously approved eight other policy revisions.
On second reading the Owatonna Public School District board considered a slate of policy revisions and approved several policies at its Feb. 24 meeting. The board first moved to pull policies 601 and 606.5 for separate consideration; that motion passed. The board then approved policies 601 and 606.5 on a 6–1 vote, with Elizabeth Hedlund recorded as the lone nay. The board subsequently approved policies 418, 603, 604, 609, 613, 606, 619 and 707 by unanimous vote.
Board member Jolayne Mohs made motions throughout the policy section, and Mark Sebring moved the motion to approve policies 601 and 606.5 (seconded by Jensen). The votes and the names recorded in the minutes are part of the official meeting record.
