Applicant seeks 40 x 50 pole barn and kiln for tree service; board requires minor site plan and fire review

Douglas Anderson presented preliminary plans for "Doug's Tree Service" at the Jan. 22, 2026 Danville Planning Board meeting and said he wants to build a pole barn and a kiln on his property. Anderson told the board the structure would be "40 x 50," that the kiln would be fueled by wood or wood chips, and that he expects the project could start within "6 months to a year." He also asked whether Frye Road will be opened to Route 111; member Chip Current said the road connection is in state discussions and is "close to approval" but that funding remains to be resolved, and Anderson offered his equipment and assistance for the work.

Board members said the proposal must go through a minor site plan review. Barry Hantman and Chip Current told Anderson the review should show the building footprint, stormwater/runoff plans, whether the development affects any previously approved parking, and any needed electrical or plumbing work. They also recommended the applicant consult the Fire Department to determine whether fire suppression will be required; Anderson said he would downsize the building if suppression is mandated and plans to install a gate and a Knox box. No formal application or vote occurred at the meeting; board members directed Anderson to submit a minor site plan and obtain Fire Department guidance before proceeding.
