The board administered an oath to a newly introduced student board member and welcomed the student's participation in district governance.
During the opening remarks, a board member said the district would "take care of getting her sworn in," invited the student to raise a right hand and repeat the oath. A participant recited the oath, including the pledge to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of California" and to "faithfully discharge the duties upon which I am about to enter."
Later the new student read the board's welcome statement describing where public documents are posted and reminding attendees that "a focus on all of our students' best interests is the touchdown for our decisions." Trustees and staff welcomed the student and thanked student representatives for participating; the meeting then proceeded with the Pledge of Allegiance.
