Trustees ask for separate bond study session and clearer project budgeting

One trustee said it would be helpful to see a separate presentation so board members wouldn’t feel pressured to vote without detailed budget context. Staff replied that an unaudited-actuals report could appear at the Sept. 15 meeting or be broken out into a separate October study session. "We could provide Tanya with the data of exactly how much money we project to need to finish that project, including contingency and allowances," a facilities speaker said, adding that the district prefers to avoid surprises when members have to vote.
Trustees asked for line-item clarity on bond balances, contingencies and allowances. Staff also offered to explain cost drivers — for example, why a contractor’s contract might be $12 million while the project cost runs higher — showing how allowances and other pots of money are allocated. There was no new formal action; staff committed to follow up with detailed reporting.
