The consultants said the project was denied grant funding this cycle largely because the site was on leased land, and recommended the city pursue Community Parks and Recreation (CPR) grants and reapply to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) next year. "Project denied for grant funds mainly due to land ownership and it being a lease," the minutes state.
Following the presentation the council voted to acquire the proposed park property, including the small triangle for a dog-walk area, for $133,000. Gary Syrett moved to approve the acquisition and Kam Roundy seconded; the minutes record Bryce Syrett and Mike Stevens voting yes with Cherrie Tebbs absent. Council discussed matching options (tax funding, bonding, or using cash on hand) and emphasized designing the facility for county-wide use in future grant applications.
