"We do have the data that supports that there is excessive speeding on School Street, you know, through the traffic engineer," the chair said during discussion of speed-control options. Council approved a 90-day trial for three-way stops at School Street intersections; staff said soft solar speed signs were being installed and would be enforceable after the required public notice period.
Council members discussed speed humps as a separate engineering recommendation and referenced a resident survey result cited by staff that reportedly split roughly two-thirds in favor of speed humps and one-third opposed. The council asked staff for a plan for potential speed-hump installations and for additional surveying on adjacent streets (for example, Rhodes Avenue and Rose Avenue) where residents later raised similar concerns.
The council's action establishes a public-trial period for the stop signage and directs staff to return with implementation details and any necessary resident-notification steps at the end of the trial.
