Perino said the change reflects Ohio Revised Code guidance and the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) for accessibility standards; he noted that many sidewalk failures are tied to street trees and that staff can often repair or coordinate repairs quickly.
Council discussion emphasized making the process easy for residents, including the city’s use of tools such as a grinder to reduce repair costs and offering contractor coordination. A motion to send the modified sidewalk maintenance program to council passed on roll call with unanimous committee support.
