Residents ask Delaware City Council to add crosswalk on Cheshire Road

Edward Gifford, president of the Stratford Woods Homeowners Association, and Becky Brucato of the Landings of Glen Ross urged the council to act on a petition seeking safer pedestrian crossings on Cheshire Road.
Edward Gifford said the neighborhood conducted a survey and a mailing campaign opposing an ODOT overpass, and described concerns about traffic impacts and safety. “Please leave us alone,” he told council, summarizing residents’ strong opposition to an overpass and their desire to preserve Hawthorne Boulevard’s character. Becky Brucato added that many local residents walk, bike and walk dogs and that they “are always feeling like we're having to try to get across Cheshire safely somehow.”
Council acknowledged receipt of the petition filed 08/26/2025 and the history discussed by the Parking & Safety committee. Staff recommended returning the petition to Parking & Safety for further staff evaluation; council accepted that recommendation and will await a staff report. No formal appropriation or ordinance was adopted at tonight’s meeting.
