The City Council voted to approve Resolution No. 2025-06 on Feb. 3, 2025, authorizing renewal of an interlocal agreement with the City of Sunnyside for inmate housing. Police Chief Tim Quantrell told the council Sunnyside notified Zillah of a rate increase to $68.99 per day from $63.00 for 2025; the interlocal agreement is renewed annually.
"The City of Sunnyside has provided notice of an increase in jail service rates for 2025, raising the daily rate from $63.00 to $68.99," Chief Tim Quantrell said during the study session. Brian Williams moved to approve the interlocal agreement and Janice Gonzales seconded; council approved the motion unanimously.
The renewal commits Zillah to continue housing inmates under the updated daily rate; the minutes do not specify expected inmate-days or total fiscal impact.
