Brian French, a co‑coordinator of Geneseo’s Odyssey of the Mind program, asked the board for permission for student teams to travel to the World Finals in Iowa after describing the competition’s structure and past successes.
"We're here to ask for permission to attend Worlds," French told the board, noting Geneseo’s history of state and world placings and the program’s benefits for problem solving, teamwork and creativity. Students who presented said the experience builds community and career readiness. Abby Fowler said, "I've been doing Odyssey for 11 years. I'm a senior, and I do Odyssey because, it really creates a sense of community." Noah French added that the program influenced his choice to pursue engineering.
The board treated the request as a consent item and approved the field trip: Chair (S1) called for the motion to approve the Odyssey of the Mind field trip (May 27–30, 2026) to Iowa for the world final; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Students and coaches said they will continue to seek fundraising and community recognition to support future participation.
