Leanna Jones, Energy Program Manager for Sustainable Jersey, told the Mahwah Environmental Commission during its June 10 meeting that she would serve as the primary contact for the Community Energy Plan grant and walked the commission through grant strategies, obligations and timelines. Jones said the municipal grant includes $10,000 for the town and that she provided templates to assist the commission with organizing data and planning next steps.
Jones highlighted a key milestone for the grant: the submission of a proposed revised budget by October 30, 2026 to allocate the $10,000. Chair Richard Wolf later clarified that an initial $2,000 is designated for developing the plan and explained allowable uses of that initial funding. The commission opened the matter in public session and then closed discussion after taking questions; next steps include using the provided templates and coordinating with Sustainable Jersey on deliverables and outreach.
