Superintendent outlines SB 141 interim-assessment deadlines and approved products

Superintendent Kim briefed the board on Senate Bill 141 accountability measures and related district implications. "Districts and charter schools have to notify... ODE by April 30 what interim assessment they plan to use," she said, and listed the approved products: STAR, MAP (MAP Growth), I-Ready and a Cambium SBAC option. Kim said the district plans to use STAR, which will be administered three times a year (fall, winter and spring) for required grades.
Board members asked about workload and whether the bill creates an unfunded mandate. Kim said the assessment cadence largely mirrors existing practices for many grades but cautioned that the state can intervene if districts fail to make adequate progress toward goals; the superintendent also noted a modest first-year allocation to help districts that previously had no interim assessments.
