Thompson hires special counsel and technical consultant to join Townline Solar review

The Town of Thompson on July 7 authorized legal and technical representation to participate in the state-level review of the Townline Solar Project. The board moved to jointly retain Harris Beach Murtha Cullina PLLC as special counsel and Sterling Environmental Engineering, P.C. as the independent technical consultant.
The resolution (Res. No. 298) states Sterling’s independent technical services are estimated at $98,200, plus incidental expenses, and that the expenses will be paid from ORES intervenor/local agency account funds to the extent such funds are awarded and available. The engagement letter for Harris Beach and the consultant agreement for Sterling were approved for execution by the supervisor, subject to the town attorney’s final form review.
Town officials said the coordinated approach is intended to protect local interests during the Article VIII review process, including environmental, land-use, public-health and community-impact issues. The resolution notes the town and neighboring governments have entered a memorandum of understanding to pursue a coordinated review and to seek allocation and use of intervenor funds.
The board voted to approve the engagements; Councilwoman Melinda S. Meddaugh moved the resolution and Councilman Richard L. Benjamin, Jr. seconded. The vote recorded in the minutes shows the motion carried with all present voting yes. The authorization directs the town supervisor to sign necessary engagement documents and for staff to pursue intervenor funding to cover costs.
