Commission accepts certified Nov. 5 special-election results; officials say all eight measures passed

The Lighthouse Point City Commission convened a short special session at 6:00 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2024, to present certified returns from the Nov. 5 special election and to accept those results for the record. The presiding official opened the meeting and invited the city legal representative to explain the certification process.

"You have the certified results, which we received from the supervisor of elections yesterday, which show that all 8 of the city's questions, which were 7 charter questions of 1 bond referendum, all were, passed by the voters of the city," the commission's legal representative told the body, describing the certified report supplied by the elections supervisor. He noted the commission was not required to approve the results but asked for a motion to accept them for the record.

Clerk moved to accept the certified results from the Nov. 5, 2024 special election; the commission voted by voice. The Chair announced, "Motion carries 3 0." The recorded vote tally was three ayes and no recorded nays or abstentions.

The meeting included a formal roll call establishing a quorum; Mayor Van Buskirk was recorded as absent, while Commission President Long, Vice President Petrone, Commissioners Marshall and Stafford were recorded present (Commissioner Joffe was absent). With no public commenters, the commission completed the certification and indicated it would resume internal training afterward.
