Staff described a resolution to bag parking meters and allow open containers for a scheduled event on August 15, including suspension of enforcement during event hours and permission for open containers in designated spaces. "This this resolution we can buy, it's the suspension of the enforcement 9AM until 10PM, on August 15, as well as allowing the open containers to be held on Spring Street," the staff member explained, and organizers added logistics about a race/walk route and a planned finish on Depot Street.
Council discussed realistic closure windows and settled on a shorter closure for Depot Street tied to the race: members settled on an approximate closure from about 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A motion to close Depot Street for the event and to suspend meter enforcement passed by voice vote; staff will finalize signage and meter bagging details and circulate times to affected residents.
